Bells and Donations for Haiti

Our churches will place offering plates in the back of our worship spaces for the next few weeks for those who would like to contribute to the Presbyterian Disaster Relief's response to the tragic earthquake in Haiti. This Sunday, Jan. 17, churches in Delaware City and Port Penn are being asked to toll their bells at 1:15 p.m. as communities take three minutes to pray for the people there.

Following is a prayer by the moderator of the PCUSA:

We pray for Haiti

God of compassion

please watch over the people of Haiti,

and weave out of these terrible happenings

wonders of goodness and grace.

Surround those who have been affected by tragedy

with a sense of your present love,

and hold them in faith.

Though they are lost in grief,

may they find you and be comforted.

Guide us as a church

to find ways of providing assistance

that heal wounds and provide hope.

Help us to remember that when one of your children suffers

we all suffer;

through Jesus Christ who was dead, but lives

and rules this world with you. Amen.

Happy New Year!
How wonderful to start the New Year with 20 people in attendance in Port Penn on Sunday! Of course our joint service was due to the flooding and heater damage in Delaware City, but it's always nice to see a full house! We will keep you informed as our heater is repaired and let you know where we will be meeting on Sunday, Jan. 10. Meantime, the Delaware City Church is full of chilly and droopy poinsettias--if you want the one you donated you may want to rescue it soon!
If you need to schedule a time to get into the building, call 379-0590 and we will arrange for someone to meet you.

UpComing Events:

Delaware City's Session is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., this Wednesday, Jan. 6 at the church. If the heater is still broken we will reschedule or find a warmer place to meet. Watch for an e-mail.

This Sunday, Dec. 10 a Prayer and Brainstorming Session is scheduled, along with a spaghetti dinner, at 4 p.m. in Port Penn. This will be a time of discussion and guided prayer as we gather to discern God's will for the church and its future. Please plan to join us. Members and friends who are interested in helping with a revitalization effort are welcome.
